Item Details
Description
Jennifer Wheten (1941-2021, British), pastel, 'Evening Light, Mewslade', a bold interpretation of Mewslade Bay near Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales, framed, measuring 44cm x 64cm, & 56cm x 76cm overall Note - Jennifer Wheten was born in Cardiff, moved to Dentdale in 1999, then Sedbergh a few years after. She was a self taught artist who worked mainly in pastels, acrylic, and mixed media, as well as experimenting with intaglio and relief printmaking. She was inspired by the local landscape with ever changing colour and mood, and loved to use colour in a lively way to express her feelings about it. Other favourite subjects were trees, rocks, rivers, flowers, and the coast of South and West Wales. Other works are inspired by her love of Venice and painting holidays in Northumberland. She was a member of the Sedbergh and Lake District Art Society, and exhibited at their annual exhibitions, as well as selling via The Gallery, Sedbergh. She also exhibited at Milnthorpe Open Exhibition and Cumbrian Artists Open Exhibition at The Upfront Gallery, plus The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal.
