Rara prima traduzione italiana di una delle opere più famose e influenti nella storia del liberalismo, tradotta sulla versione francese. Pubblicato in maniera anonima e con il falso luogo di stampa (Amsterdam), probabilmente l'edizione è da attribuirsi al genovese Luigi Alessandro Lupi. Dedicato a Girolamo Durazzo, futuro doge della Repubblica Ligure dal 1802 al 1805, l’opera non apparve più in una traduzione italiana fino al 1925 quando fu pubblicato dai Fratelli Bocca.
