Roma, Giovanni Zempel, 1775Folio 370x225 mm; Legatura in cartonato marmorizzato, titoli in oro su tassello al dorso. Pp. 4, 27, 1. Antiporta incisa da Guglielmo Miller illustrando un vaso e una tavola fuori testo ripiegata. Iniziali e fregi xil., pagine entro cornice ornamentale. Nome dell'autore appare nella dedica.<br
Qualche pagina con leggerissime fioriture. Buon esemplare.Prima edizione. Orazio Orlandi analizza l’apparato iconografico e l’iscrizione di un vaso marmoreo appartenuto a Thomas Jenkins. Il vaso, ornato da grappoli d’uva, mascheroni e festoni, è soprattutto abbellito da 7 bellissime figure scolpite a mezzo rilievo. Orlandi credette di riconoscere in questa illustrazione mitica, le nozze tra Paride ed Elena. L’autore avanza numerose congetture al fine di giustificare tale tesi, attingendo soprattutto dal testo omerico dell’Iliade. Inoltre l’Orlandi interpretò anche l’iscrizione che adorna il vaso, precedentemente analizzata dal Grutero, dall’Appiano, dal Muratori e dal Gori. Cicognara 3290.

Folio 370x225 mm; Binding in marbled boards; gilt title on label at the spine. Pp. 4, 27, 1. Frontispiece engraved by Guglielmo Miller depicting the vase, 1 folded copper plates out text. Woodcut initials and ornaments, pages within ornamental frame. Name of the Author appear in the dedication. Some page with sporadic foxing, good copy.
First edition. Orazio Orlandi analyzes the iconographic apparatus and the inscription of a marble vase belonging to Thomas Jenkins. The vase, adorned with bunches of grapes, masks and festoons, is especially embellished by 7 beautiful figures carved in relief. Orlandi believed to recognize in this mythical illustration, the marriage between Paris and Elena. The author puts forward many conjectures in order to justify this thesis, drawing mainly on the Homeric text of the Iliad. Moreover, Orlandi also interpreted the inscription that adorns the vase, previously analyzed by the Grutero, the Appiano, the Muratori and the Gori.
