Description
**Originally Listed At $300**

Western Europe, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th century CE. A fine brass figure of a fisherman based on the Roman statuette excavated from Casa della Fontana Piccolo (House of the Petite Fountain) in Pompeii in 1823. The Pompeii figure was perched on the edge of a fountain in a garden, appearing as though he was fishing in it, while water gushed from the mouth of the satyr mask at his feet, as seen in this example. A wonderful example of the 19th-century interest in newly-discovered Classical art during the period's influx of archeological excavations! Size: 2.7" W x 4.6" H (6.9 cm x 11.7 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Brooklyn, New York, USA collection
