Two late 18th C. American folk art paintings on silk, one depicting a pensive young woman under a willow tree by a brook, holding a remarkable little dog by a leash, the other showing a young woman in classical garb, also beneath a willow, seeming to high-five a winged cupid. Both with black and gilt eglomise frames. A note identifies the paintings as "from Richards Estate, Austin, Tx." Foxing to silk. Minor surface losses to frames. Small (1/2") triangle of glass missing from lower left corner of one picture. Frames, approx. 14 1/2" x 11 1/2". Provenance: the estate of John Long, highly regarded Virginia antiques dealer and collector.
