Description
China, 1850-1949. Comprising a five-peak mountain-form brushrest painted in cobalt-blue with crashing waves to both sides, the base left unglazed; and a Shiwan ware brushrest modeled as a scholar's rock with peaks, crevices, and perforations, covered overall in a dark-brown glaze that pools and darkens in the recesses, save for the base impressed with a studio mark. (2)
Inscriptions: To the base of the scholar's rock brushrest, 'Zhixia'.
Provenance: From a French private collection.
Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and firing flaws, few minute chips and nicks to the bases.
