Description
A CHINESE RED LACQUERED WOOD CIRCULAR DINING TABLE, LATE QING DYNASTY/ EARLY REPUBLIC PERIOD, 1890s-1920s, of circular form and composed of two connecting demilune tables with flat tops above a reticulated frieze with shallow relief carving of undulating leafy vines, above corner roaring dragon masks flanking central panels of stylized shou character marks in relief, partitioned by rectangular legs flanked by scrolling foliate brackets and joined by curved footrest stretcher panels with pierced lozenge details. Height: 34 1/8" Width: 47 1/8" Depth: 46 3/4" Note: It has been suggested that this table might have been originally made for a tea house which might account for its taller than average height, the very worn footrest stretchers, and its circular shape.
Condition
Worn red lacquer/paint, traces of gilt highlights along frieze, age shrinkage cracks, marks, scratches, nicks, chips, touch ups, repairs, and surface wear from use throughout.
