A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE 'ZODIAC' CHARGER, KANGXI MARK, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC
China, c. 1800-1949. Thickly potted, supported on a raised foot with flaring sides, painted in shades of cobalt blue with the twelve animals of the zodiac standing in a grassy meadow encompassed by a key-fret band and four panels of peony blossoms. The exterior with blue bamboo sprouts.
Provenance: From a private estate in south London, United Kingdom.
Condition: The rim with an old fill and associated touchup, otherwise in good condition with minor wear, traces of use, and firing flaws, such as kiln grit to the well.

The base with an apocryphal six-character mark da Qing Kangxi nianzhi.
