Ancient Egyptian Anubis Faience Amulet (ca. 1200-500 BCE). This 1.5” Anubis amulet depicts the god as a striding man with a jackal head. He is wearing his traditional kilt, and his arms are extended along the sides of his body. He stands on a rectangular base with pillar he leans against. Anubis was an important mortuary god responsible for mummification and the protection of the dead. A pendant in his shape was a popular funerary amulet in ancient times. Provenance: ex-Dr. Gerald A. Smith collection; ex-Bonhams of London. A large portion of’ this collection of antiquities is now housed at the Museum of Us (former Museum of Man) in San Diego, CA & Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, CA.
