Description
Pre-Columbian, Northwest Coast Peru, Viru culture, ca. 100 BCE to 600 CE. A pottery stirrup vessel in the form of a nude male shown seated with a hands on knees and a huge, erect phallus. Enveloped in red slip, his giant head features a heavy brow, coffee bean-shaped eyes, a sizable pointed nose, and thin lips in a slight smile, all flanked by a pair of massive ears. His back is lined with incised horizontal striations as a tubular stirrup spout rises from the top. A curious and fascinating example! Size: 5.9" L x 4" W x 9.5" H (15 cm x 10.2 cm x 24.1 cm)
