Nien Cheng 念鄭 or Zheng Nian 鄭念 (January 28, 1915 - November 2, 2009) was the pen name of Yao Nien-Yuan (姚念媛). She was a Chinese author known for recounting her experiences during the Cultural Revolution in her memoir Life and Death in Shanghai.
ARTIST BIO: Hu Shuang'an 胡爽庵 (1916 - 1988) was a master of modern tiger painting. His ink painting of tigers is unparalleled, with smooth brushwork and a free spirit. A native of Xiangyang, Hubei. Also known as Shuang'an, the name of the house is Xiaofengtang, and the other name is Hu Jianming. Both his parents died when he was young. He made a living by shepherding sheep in the countryside. In his spare time, he liked to paint with wooden sticks and fingernails. At the age of 18, he went to Jinan and worked as a clerk in the Communication Department of the Shandong Provincial Government. He taught himself painting in his spare time, especially painting tigers. In 1935, he became a teacher of Zhang Shan and learned to paint animals. Later, he met Zhang Daqian in the Lion Garden of the Internet and became a teacher of Zhang Daqian. Learn to draw figures and landscapes. Member of the Chinese Artists Association, Beijing Fine Arts Chinese Painting Group, Beijing Art Company Studio, engaged in Chinese painting creation. Published titles include "Selected Chinese Paintings" and "Tiger".
