Description
Japanese Scroll Painting of Tiger Descending Mountain is a hanging scroll, probably 18th-19th century in date. Softly painted on silk, the artist expertly modulates the ink to describe the coat of the animal with dark and light ink wash accented with well-placed linear markings for the fur. The stalking animal is positioned so it confronts the viewer when hung in a tokonoma. The tiger, a zodiac animal, also symbolizes strength and protection. Artist's signature and seal on lower left corner.
