Elvira Bugarini Cota (Mexican, 21st century). 2 Mata Ortiz jars. Incised signature on underside of each base. An impressive pair of Mata Ortiz pottery jars by Elvira Bugarini Cota. Both boast a bulbous body meticulously hand-painted with mesmerizing linear designs in hues of black and red. Though both sit upon rounded bases with narrow necks, the more petite jar presents an orb-shaped body and flared rim, while the larger displays a broad hip and sloped shoulder. Elvira Bugarini Cota is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz who is known for making seed pots with heavily intricate designs as seen here. She learned from her sister, Laura Bugarini, and has gone on to earn a Best of Show ribbon at the annual Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Mata Ortiz exhibition in 2013. Size: 5" Diameter x 4.5" H (12.7 cm x 11.4 cm); 4.9" H (12.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Condition
Incised signature on underside of each base. More petite vessel has a few small paint marks to interior of spout, possibly created by the artist during production. Otherwise, both are intact and excellent with nice preservation of pigments and painted detail. Both are accompanied by custom stands.
