Description
Important and rare bowl ''Larmes de soude'' Émile Galle, Nancy, 1903 On a nod, stepped disc base. Colourless glass, this marbled with yellowish, brownish and partial blue meltings. The body is surrounded by ribbons in colourless with white-silvery meltings, the so-called ''tears of soda''. The muzzle of the wide-open body is raised several times as well as extended and adjusted. Signed on the back in high relief: ''Galle''. H. 16.3 cm; D. 17.5 cm. Lit.: A. Duncan/G. de Bartha, Glass by Gallé, p. 76 no. 99 and exhibition catalogue Musée du Luxembourg ''Catalogue de l'Exposition Gallé'', Paris 1985/86, p. 232. The white-silver ribbons are intended to be a connotation of the crystallization process in the production of soda. On the other hand, the yellowish-brownish body alludes to the earth, from which the necessary minerals are extracted. This vase was commissioned by the Belgian company ''Solvay et Cie'', which was the undisputed world market leader in soda production from 1900 onwards. (Auction catalogue Millon ''Collection de Monsieur G'', Paris 2016, p. 22, position 20)
