This splendid goblet is of a shape much favoured by the Beilbys, presenting a large flat surface upon which to paint. A small number of goblets with similar scenes incorporating pyramids or obelisks are known, including one in the Victoria and Albert Museum (inv. no.C.628-1936) illustrated by James Rush, The Ingenious Beilbys (1973), p.67, no.38a. See also the example on p.19, no.7 and that sold by Bonhams on 2 May 2018, lot 140.
