Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 2000 to 1500 BCE; Mixtec culture, ca. 500 BCE to 1500 CE. A miniature Valdivian pottery figurine fragment with minimalist features including a set of impressed eyes and mouth, and the other pottery item is a Mesoamerican labret. The burnished and black surface of the lip plug / labret was probably supposed to emulate obsidian stone. Size of labret: 1.5" L x 1" W (3.8 cm x 2.5 cm)
Provenance: private Matrisciano collection, Thousand Oaks, California, USA, before 2002
