Description
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Rio Balsas, Mixtec, ca. 1250 CE and Colima, West Mexico ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. Two fine pottery bowls from Mexico. First is a lovely, decorated Mixtec bowl with painted scroll / wave pattern, interior of the bowl with incised cross-hatchings mimicking a grater form also from this culture. With spooled base and reserved exterior. Along with a medium-sized Colima vessel in the form of a mace head with indented base, flaring rim and 8 extending "petals." Size for the Colima: 6" W x 4.5" H (15.2 cm x 11.4 cm)
Provenance: ex-Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
