ROBERT TODD LINCOLN (1843-1926). Oldest Son of President Abraham Lincoln. Secretary of War under Presidents Garfield and Arthur (1881-1885). U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom under Presidents Cleveland and B. Harrison (1889-1893).
December 16, 1882-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, "Robert T Lincoln", as U.S. Secretary of War, measuring 6.5" x 9", 1 page, (Washington), Choice Very Fine. Here, Lincoln writes to (Senator) "Hon. H. B. Anthony, Chairman Joint Commitee on Public Printing / U.S. Senate". This Letter is neatly handwritten by Lincoln on clean light blue lined wove period paper and reads, in full: "Sir: -- I have the honor to request that this Department may be furnished with three hundred (300) copies of the Congressional Directory, first edition, 2nd Session, 47th Congress. -- Very respectfully, Your obedient servant, - (Signed) Robert T Lincoln / Secretary of War." Small inset, 1.5" x 2.5" engraved portrait of Robert Lincoln is mounted to the letter in a blank area across from the signature.
