Description
Akkadian Cylinder Seal, ca. 2300-2200 BCE, Carved gray stone, apprx 28 x 11mm. Figure in center of Ninkarrak, goddess of medicine, worshiped chiefly in northern Mesopotamia and Syria. The goddess standing, facing left in a long flounced skirt, with both arms upward , bent at the elbows, wearing a hat. She faces a worshiper or possibly Pabilsag, wearing a kilt, and holding a hand tool in right hand which is downward. Be tween the figures is a tall depiction of grain with leafy branches. This seal comes with a museum quality modern impression, however the typed letter by W. G. Lambert is missing. From the collection of Juliane and Philip Lynch, Shaker Heights, Ohio.
Condition: two small chips at the top edge, however not into the images.
