Description
Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 30 BCE to 2nd century CE. A stucco statue of a woman with luxurious clothing painted onto her form. She stands with one knee slightly bent, her hands out to the sides, and her head angled downward. She is depicted wearing a large pectoral, a flowing robe, and a tall headdress; her black-painted hair hangs down to her shoulders. The lack of pigment on her back indicates that she was made to be set into a niche or altar, facing outward towards the viewer. Who does the figure represent? Although she may be a goddess, it seems more likely that she represents an elite woman. Her headdress and hairstyle look very similar to ones known from women's stucco mummy masks from the Romano-Egyptian world. Size: 2.9" W x 8.05" H (7.4 cm x 20.4 cm); 8.5" H (21.6 cm) on included custom stand.
