Our soldier was Isaac N. Bodine 18 years old.Enlisted on Feb 1st 1864 at Fayetteville, Arkansas as a Private and mustered into Co. -E- 1st Arkansas Cavalry. He had been born in Crawford County, MO., and his mother applied for a pension in 1870.
Here is a history of the regiment while Bodine was with it...

Skirmishes at Bentonville and Newbeon Bridge October 25. Van Buren October 26. Fayetteville October 27-28.1865 Duty about Fayetteville and at Fort Smith till August, 1865. Skirmish near Van Buren April 2, 1865. Mustered out August 20, 1865.
Of some note... In July 1864, there were only 104 horses available for the 538 men present for duty in the regiment. This shortage of horses frequently forced the First Arkansas to conduct scouting and patrol duty on foot, a situation that placed the regiment at a considerable disadvantage when combating well-mounted Confederate guerrillas.Despite these limitations, the First Arkansas was a very important Union counter-guerrilla force in northwest Arkansas. Much of its success can be attributed to the soldiers’ extensive knowledge of the countryside and motivation to settle old scores with Confederate sympathizers. Confederate irregulars, meanwhile, possessed an equally intense hatred for the Mountain Feds who they saw as traitors to their state. This gun was in the thick of it.
I have included photo illustrations of an original 1st Ark Cav guidon flag and an image of Joshua Dodd a member of the regiment wearing a regulation cavalry jacket.
