Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast of Peru, Moche, Phase IV, ca. 450 to 700 CE. A hand-built pottery stirrup vessel depicting a kneeling figure who wears a striped head scarf as well as a sizable sack tied around the front of the chest. Interestingly, a raised stirrup bottle hanging off of the left hip shows how the common Mochica man or woman would have carried - as well as decorated - vessels like this one. Size: 5.7" L x 3.375" W x 7" H (14.5 cm x 8.6 cm x 17.8 cm)

Condition
Repair and minor restoration to base of spout, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Light fading and abrasions to original pigment, with softening to some finer details, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to facial details. Previous inventory number handwritten in white pigment beneath base.
