A rare and scarce folding pocket map showing a "MAP OF THE CITIES OF NEW YORK, BROOKLYN, LONGISLAND CITY, JERSEY CITY & HOBOKEN" published by "M. DRIPPS, 103 FULTON ST. N. Y." with a catalogue of M. Dripps' maps and corresponding prices printed on the inside cover of the case. Date of this map is unknown, but most likely between 1860 to 1890 based on other maps by the same maker. Matthew Dripps was born in 1818 in Ireland and died on April 9th, 1896. It is possible this map was printed after his death - but based on other examples we feel 1860 to 1890 is a likely date range for the map presented here. Details of ferries, streets, property owners of the day are included in this map. A price guide of other Dripps maps on the inside cover lists at least 21 other maps available for purchase ranging in price from 25 cents to a map in Atlas form for $12. Map itself measures 27 3/4" x 21 3/4". Folded in hard cover case measures 5 3/4" x 3 1/2"

Map is very fragile and can tear easily. When unfolding one should use the utmost care in opening it. Winning bidder might consider getting the map professionally conserved and possibly mounted. Foxing and signs of age throughout, especially at the intersections of the folds. Some small pieces missing.
