Description
Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Achaemenid Persian Empire, ca. 550 to 330 BCE; Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE; Near East, Islamic culture, ca. 19th century CE. A lovely collection of 3 carnelian intaglios and 1 cylinder stamp seal bead. The first and largest is an ovoid stone from 19th-century Islamic culture featuring Kufic calligraphy. Next and most petite, is a Roman intaglio of a lion feasting on prey. Also Roman, the scaraboid-shaped intaglio features a bull with the inscription "CIO O NC." Last, the Achaemenid stamp seal bead is faceted vertically with faces featuring alternating decoration of a human figure or lattice motif. Size of largest (Islamic): 1.3" L x 0.8" W (3.3 cm x 2 cm)

Condition
Roman lion intaglio is stuck in iron encrustations. Otherwise, all are intact and excellent with nice remaining detail.
