Eden (Anthony) Typed letter signed ('Anthony Eden') to Sir W.D. Ross, Provost of Oriel College, Oxford, from 1929 to1947 and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University from 1941 to 1944, reading "with reference to my letter of the 21st June about an honorary degree for General Chiang-Kai-shek, I write to inform you that we have received a telegram from our Washington Embassy transmitting a message from Sir Horace Seymour at Chungking to the effect that Chiang Kai-sheck will be much pleased to accept a D.C.L. The Generalissimo asked the Ambassador to convey to Lord Halifax, and through the latter to the University authorities, his sincere thanks for the high honour they have decided to confer on him. We have sent a copy of this message to Lord Halifax, who will doubtless write to you direct", one page. light folding marks, 4to, Foreign Office, 16 July 1942.
