Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Greater Nicoya, ca. 300 to 800 CE. An elegant pottery tripod vessel comprised of a shallow bowl with a flared rim and a trio of tapered legs. Each conical leg was previously filled with a petite clapper that would emit a rattling noise when shaken. Size: 11" L x 11.3" W x 9.3" H (27.9 cm x 28.7 cm x 23.6 cm)

Provenance: private Constance McCormick Fearing estate, Montecito, California, USA, acquired before 2004

Perforation to one leg, as well as expected nicks, chips, and abrasions to surface. Loss of clappers in 2 legs. Applied modern blue pigment in one area. Otherwise, excellent with rich earthen encrustations throughout.
