Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A two-headed drum, known as a damaru (damru), made from wood with stretched skin painted green. A woven cloth band form a handle and attached are leather cords with hardened cloth pellets at the tips - when the drum is shaken the pellets hit the faces. The damaru drum is used in both Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism, and in the former it is used in tantric practices as just one of the sacred implements that form their rituals. Size: 5" Diameter x 3.5" H (12.7 cm x 8.9 cm)
