Description
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early to mid- 20th century CE. A two-headed drum, known as a damaru (damru), made from wood with stretched skin painted green, and a silk handle attached to the center. A high quality silver ring is sewn to the end and a sterling silver ornament adorns the silk around the drum. Cords with a hard pellet at the end, would strike either skin face as the drum was shaken. Such drums were used in both Buddhist tantric meditation and Hindu rituals as the instrument associated with Shiva. Size: 4" Diameter x 3.5" H (10.2 cm x 8.9 cm); silver quality: 89% to 94%

Condition
One cord is missing the carved resin bead and the other bead has a large chip to the center. Could easily be replaced if one desired with other beads. Some minor wear and staining to cloth from use, but skin is taut and drum is otherwise intact and makes a nice sound.
