Description
STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED ELEPHANT MOTIF CERAMIC WELL-AND-TREE PLATTERS, LOT OF TWO, each having brown/sepia transfer scenes, comprising one featuring "HANNIBAL Passing the Alps" #9, as printed to underside, depicting an army crossing a mountain with elephant, warriors on horseback, and archers, and one example with Elephant in Oriental Garden #2, depicting a romantic motif with a figure astride a pachyderm, a large Greek urn to left, and fictional town in background. Marks to underside include printed shield with stag head to top. Knight, Elkin, & Co., Fenton, England; and other. Second quarter 19th century. 2 3/4" HOA, 19" x 15 7/8" and 19 1/2" x 16".

Condition
Hannibal example undamaged, having some minute glaze wear to elephant; elephant in garden example having a chip to foot; each having some minor usage wear including light short scattered scratches.
