Description
A mid-20th century Russian Soviet era lacquered wooden trinket box with hinged lid. Black piece with gilt decor on the sides, the inside is painted red. The hand-painted lid is depicts a battle of two bogatyrs on horseback. Titled Ruslans Fight with the Head, referring to the poem Ruslan and Lyudmila by Alexander Pushkin. Signed no. 2819, G. Markova, Palekh, 1969 on the bottom of the lid. The box comes with an original price tag. Palekh is one of the largest centers of Russian lacquer art.
