Bonnie Schewkes (American, d. 2016) decorative ladies' dressing room or dress shop diorama featuring an ornately decorated room with a feminine fashion theme; signed to label on reverse. The diorama/shadowbox is set behind glass in a black frame with black velvet backing/siding and hang cord. Bonnie Schewkes was a New York artist who began to make dioramas at a young age. After attending Brooklyn College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree, she started her own antique, decorating, and diorama shop in Brooklyn in 1972. This continued until 1988. Subsequently, she worked with the New York Metropolitan Opera Company making dioramas based on a number of operas, including Bizet's Carmen, Puccini's Butterfly, and Verdi's La Traviata. Provenance: Phyllis Lucas Gallery, NYC. [13 1/2" H x 11" W x 5 3/4" D]. In good, vintage condition.
