Bonnie Schewkes (American, d. 2016) decorative Mozart-themed diorama featuring an antique music room with piano, music and portraits of Mozart; signed lower right reverse. The diorama/shadowbox is set behind glass within a gilt frame and navy velvet backing with a gold cord. Bonnie Schewkes was a New York artist who began to make dioramas at a young age. After attending Brooklyn College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree, she started her own antique, decorating, and diorama shop in Brooklyn in 1972. This continued until 1988. Subsequently she worked with the New York Metropolitan Opera Company making dioramas based on a number of operas, including Bizet's Carmen, Puccini's Butterfly, and Verdi's La Traviata.
