Bonnie Schewkes (American, d. 2016) decorative Shakespeare-themed diorama/shadowbox featuring an antique living room scene with fireplace filled with miniature portraits, play scripts and props related to the English playwright; signed to reverse. The diorama is ready to hang and scene is set under glass with gilt frame and green and taupe velvet backing. Bonnie Schewkes was a New York artist who began to make dioramas at a young age. After attending Brooklyn College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree, she started her own antique, decorating, and diorama shop in Brooklyn in 1972. This continued until 1988. Subsequently she worked with the New York Metropolitan Opera Company making dioramas based on a number of operas, including Bizet's Carmen, Puccini's Butterfly, and Verdi's La Traviata.
