Kohl-tubes are more typically found with single or double compartments. This example with four tubes and an extravagant handle built up from a series of loops, which would have made the extraction of its contents a delicate operation, are unusual, with the most elaborate example to have survived being that in The Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, (D. B. Whitehouse, Roman Glass in The Corning Museum of Glass, vol. two, Corning, 2001, pp. 198-9, no. 752).
