Description
An early Victorian sterling silver claret jug or ewer, London 1837 Edward Farrell Of lobed globular form upon a tapering circular foot, the waisted neck with a fold over rim, the hinged domed lid of conforming shape surmounted by a later detachable cast finial formed as a dahlia flower with leafy calyx, part-marked circa 1850 for Charles Thomas Fox and George Fox. The acanthus capped C scroll handle fitted with insulators pinned to scroll junctions. The body with embossed decoration training flowers such as roses, convolvulus and daffodils, a vacant erased asymmetrical foliate scroll cartouche to one side. The high neck and lid with flat chased decoration of trailing foliage. Fully marked to the neck, lid part-marked to the interiors, handle part-marked. Height – 24.2 cm / 9.5 inches Weight – 828 grams / 26.62 ozt
