Description
A Victorian sterling silver mounted claret jug, London 1899 by John Grinsell and Sons The body of flatten ovoid form upon a circular foot with centrally cut base, the body with shaped panels of diamond cut work below wheel engraved floral sprays and tied ribbon, all above palmettes. The silver mount with embossed floral decoration against a textured ground with a hinged domed lid surmounted by a chased ball finial. The segmented handle with chased decoration of rosettes and stylised acanthus leaves terminating in honeysuckle. The body with an applied pierced central girdle. Fully marked to neck mount, part-marked to lid and girdle. Height – 30.4 cm / 12 inches
