AFTER NICOLAS SANSON (FRENCH, 1600-1667) MAP OF CANADA, hand-colored engraving on laid paper, titled "CANADA / of / NIEW VRANKRYK / Getrokken uit verfscheide Franfche, / Engelfche, en Hollandfche Berfchry / vingen enz. / door N. Sanson de Abb'. / Geogr'. ordre. du Roy." in cartouche in lower right corner, "A. d. Winter Sculp" in lower right corner for engraver Anthonie de Winter (Dutch, b. 1652), featuring French colony of Canada or "New France" with "Isle de Terre Neuve" in the upper right, the Great Lakes with open-ended western borders, the British colonies are labeled as "Nouvelle Angelterre" and "Virginie", and "Floride" in the lower left corner. Housed under UV glass in a modern gilt frame, backing paper with gallery label for Antique Prints, Inc. of Ocean View, DE. Circa 1705. 12" x 8 1/2" sight, 18" x 14 3/8" OA.
Condition
Good to very good visual condition with overall toning, some light fading to watercolor, some spots of faint ghosted lettering from being folded mostly along center vertical having a short tear along top edge, lower edge with a long horizontal crease line, frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
