This lot contains two extremely rare Gogodala men’s hats; Gogodala people, Balimo Lagoon, Western Province, Papua New Guinea.The woven conical hats of typical form, made of coiled raffia with flattened tops, one totally painted white, the other painted in red with white base; remains feathers to the perimeter of the white hat.Gogodala men wear these typical hats called Diba, in daily life, virtually never removing them except to sleep. They are clearly represented in their rare figural artwork as well. Such hats are actually quite uncommon in private collections. The hats measure 10.75 x 7.75 inches (largest)
