Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1150 CE. A attractive redware pottery bowl of the Wingate Red-on-Black type with a bright red-orange surface and linear / stepped motifs on the interior around emerging from a rectangle. The bowl was created using the coil-and-scrape method then slip painted with mineral based pigments and then fired in an oxidizing atmosphere to achieve a red ground. Size: 7.75" Diameter x 3.75" H (19.7 cm x 9.5 cm)
Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, purchased in 2019; ex-Mark Brady collection
