Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Homolavi type, ca. 1200 to 1300 CE. An attractive pottery bowl that features an intricate decorative program and an abstract avian creature. Constructed via the traditional coil-and-scrape technique, the orange-hued bowl exhibits a round but stable base, tall walls that swell gently along the upper body, and a thick rim surrounding the deep basin. Presented in black pigment is an elaborate geometric motif with 4 curving arms radiating around a highly abstract parrot - with a hooked beak and lengthy tail feathers - and striped geometric forms adorn the areas beneath the rim. Size: 6.9" W x 3.125" H (17.5 cm x 7.9 cm); 7.2" H (18.3 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated.

Repaired from several large pieces, with restoration to roughly 15-20% of the walls as well as along break lines, with resurfacing and overpainting across repaired/restored surfaces. Light abrasions across some surfaces, and minor fading to areas of original pigment. Nice preservation to decorative motif. TL drill holes beneath base and along rim exterior.
