Description
One of the most sought-after of all Allach pieces, 'Der Sieger', or 'The Victor', by ceramic sculptor Franz Nagy. The 14 5/8 in. tall bisque porcelain figure stands on a 4 1/4 x 4 1/8 in. base and exhibits outstanding detail, especially in the hands, feet, and the scroll grasped in the figure's left hand. Its creation helped to bring Allach to the forefront of the European porcelain houses. The underside to the figure shows the artist name, F. Nagy, the Allach porcelain entwined runes, and the model number '109', although these impressions are not strong. The porcelain factory Porzellan Manufaktur Allach was established as a private concern in 1935. In 1936 the factory was acquired by Heinrich Himmler to produce works of art that would represent, in Himmler's eyes, true Germanic culture. Production was based at Allach, the largest subcamp of Dachau, and it used slave labor in the production of these pieces. A very rare piece, representing the 'Aryan' ideal.
