Description
Roman, late Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A free-blown cup atop a stemmed base, all exhibiting verdant yellow-green hues. The deep basin is surrounded by a rounded lip for increased comfort while drinking, and the entire vessel rests upon a thick and sturdy foot. Size: 3" W x 3.2" H (7.6 cm x 8.1 cm)
Exhibited in "Ancient Glass: Selections from the Richard Brockway Collection" at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University, Salem from March 10 to May 19, 2007 and "Glass of the Ancient World" at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, Florida from October 11 to December 28, 2008.
Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003; ex-Dr. Moosberg collection, reference number G68

Minor abrasions, weathering film, heavy earthen deposits in some areas, and some micro-bubbling within glass matrix, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to overall form. Inventory label attached to top of foot.
