Description
This is an original Indian hide beaded war shirt from the Flathead Native American Indians of the Northwest Plateau in Montana dating to circa 1940-1950’s. The dress exhibits an Indian tanned and leather hide construction with cotton thread sewing in what appears to be Elk hide with a beadwork along the collar and extending down to the round medallion with four-point geometric design all done in glass trade seed beadwork. Below this and long the arms show a cut plastic jewels in yellow, orange, blue and green, a later addition. Below this is a fringed design with wound glass, plastic pearl and cut plastic beads. The cut plastic jewels are along the bottom edge, chest, back and arms of both sides. The beadwork is also on both sides of the shirt. The shirt shows fringes on the arms and along the bottom edge of the shirt as well. The piece shows a very good condition and display very well. The shirt measures 27 1/2" long by 40" wide.
