Description
This is a fantastic circa 1880-1890 buffalo hide beaded tobacco bag from the Northern Cheyenne, collected in Montana. The bag consists of Indian tanned buffalo / bison hide with cotton thread and sinew sewing and exhibits four prominent morning star patterns. The entire front is covered in 1800's glass trade seed beadwork showing geometric pattern having colors of greasy sky padre blue, greasy yellow, cobalt, greasy green, red white heart, and chalk white. The top flap has a tab pattern and also has beadwork. There is an original belt strap and ties as well as thick hand cut Indian hide fringes along the bottom. Uncommon tobacco pouch. Some slight bead loss but well kept piece. Measures approx. 19"H by 8"W.
