Description
A NATIVE AMERICAN PLAINS INDIANS PIPE AND BEADED AND QUILLED BUCKSKIN HIDE PIPE AND TOBACCO BAG, PROBABLY SIOUX, CIRCA 1885-1900, the carved pipe stem of natural wood with orange/red pigment and with a central buckskin wrap, the wood mouthpiece carved in beaver design, with catlinite bowl; bag with colored glass trade beads and naturally dyed yellow and red quillwork in geometric patterns with long fringe. Pipe Length: 25 1/2", Bag Length: 40" Width: 7"
Condition
The pipe has some wear from use and handling and the pigments are faded, but no evident damage or repair. The bag has sewn and quillwork repairs, tears, losses, stains, and exhibits a variety of color, some from repairs and other from age, broken and lost quills, all age is apparent and expected. Bag was restored in 1984.
