Description
Zacatecas, Mexico ca. 100 BCE - 250 AD. A large, hollow pottery figure having C-shaped arms held to her sides, pointed breasts. Perforated oval eyes and mouth, arched eyebrows and angular nose. Painted tan, ground with black and red geometric decoration, including a striped and zig-zag pattern poncho. Strong mineral deposits on the surface. Dimensions: 16-1/2" H.Provenance: New York Trade, 2007 acquired by Dr. Henry Cherick, a professor and dean at UCLA School of dentistry who pioneered government programs promoting dental care in HIV/AIDs patients. He was an avid collector of fine art and antiquities and died at the age of 84 in 2023.
