Leo Sauer (1870-1952) was an Austrian painter and illustrator who specialized in landscapes, portraits, and genre scenes. He was born in Vienna and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under the tutelage of the renowned painter Christian Griepenkerl. Sauer began his career as an illustrator for various Viennese newspapers and magazines, and later turned to painting. He gained a reputation for his lively and colorful depictions of Viennese life, particularly of the city's street scenes, markets, and cafes. Sauer's paintings were characterized by his use of bold brushstrokes and vivid colors, and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects with a quick and spontaneous style.
