Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $300**

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A fine pair of hand-built pottery jars exhibiting apple-shaped bodies, rounded shoulders, and squat rims. Their upper bodies are enveloped with chocolate-brown glaze, and their lower bodies are left unadorned. Ample marine encrustations suggest these vessels were submerged in a shipwreck for countless years before being found, and the largest has a sizable shell growing tangentially downwards off one side. Size of largest: 3.9" W x 2.3" H (9.9 cm x 5.8 cm); 4.2" H (10.7 cm) with marine encrustations.

Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

#170286
Condition
Light nicks and abrasions, with rough surface texture, and ample marine encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice glaze remains across upper bodies. Largest vessel does not sit upright unassisted due to tangential marine encrustation growth.
