Description
East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A delightful pair of pottery jars from the Ming dynasty. With its top half enveloped in a pale celadon glaze, the larger vessel presents a ring-form foot supporting a bulbous, ovoid body that leads to a sloped shoulder, a brief, conical neck, and a folded rim. A group of 4 petite, vertical handles adorn the shoulder, all equidistantly spaced and connecting neck base to shoulder edge. Alternatively, the shorter jar displays a squat body with a wide hip, a nearly flat shoulder, and a prominent rolled rim, all sitting upon a discoid foot. A maroon-colored glaze coats three-quarters of the vessel, while 4 horizontal handles line the shoulder. Size of larger: 5.5" Diameter x 6.3" H (14 cm x 16 cm)

Condition
Larger has chips to rim, as well as stable surface fissures visible on interior and a few old repairs to shoulder. Both have expected nicks, pitting, and abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, more petite vessel is intact with marine deposits and both are excellent.
