Description
A girlhood silk on linen pictorial needlework sampler, wrought by Anna Dornan, second quarter 19th century, decorated with a church, village, animals and floral sprays, inscribed "Could ye with ink the ocean fill / And were the sky of parchment made / Was every stalk on earth a quill / To write the love of God to man / It would drain the ocean dry / Nor could the scroll contain the whole / Tho stretched from the sky to sky"and a central oval floral medallion inscribed to the center "Anna C Dornan / her work done in AD / 18 4", all within a floral border to four sides.

Condition
Framed and glazed. Not examined out of the frame. General fading overall. Wear, minor tears and small losses to the edges of the needlework, especially to the upper left corner and along the right side vertically.
